All the performers on-stage together and take it in turns to perform, mostly accompanied by the others.

“…It’s a great concept, works with beautiful informality. They are all not only wonderful musicians, but also highly entertaining raconteurs…”

Purbeck Folk Festival is in its fifth year, with a great Lineup again; impressively the headliner on Sunday is BBC Folk Award winners Show of Hands.

Credit to the organisers and Festival director Paul Burke, who also runs the

Nice touch this year as local residents (BH19 postcodes) can come and enjoy the festival for FREE on Friday 23 August.
That would be at the bottom of my garden then!

Other than the Purbeck Folk Festival, there are also a few other music events I like to perform at on The Isle of Purbeck, such as the Square and Compass, Bankes Arms Beer and Music Festival in Studland, The Ship Inn in Langton Matravers for my neighbours and The Black Swan in Swanage.

Opening the Bankes Arms Beer and Music Festival in Studland

August 9th, 2013

Isle of Purbeck Musician at an Isle of Purbeck Beer and Music Festival

Isle of Purbeck Musician at an Isle of Purbeck Beer and Music Festival

I’m always glad to be back again at the Bankes Arms FestivalThere will be plenty of good party music from Jim Etherington, Blind Lemon Gliders, Chill and others, throughout the weekend.

I’m the opening performer at the Festival at 6.30 on Thursday and then playing again on Saturday from 4pm to 6pm.  Taking the Avalon guitar with me this time and try out some new singer songwriter material!

Bankes Arms Studland Festival is on for 4 days; Thursday August 8th to Sunday 11th, 11am to 11pm

This is the pub’s 18th annual beer festival; it is free entrance and a very dog and children friendly festival.

In association with the Isle of Purbeck Brewery the festival features over 80 barrels of 200 quality cask-conditioned real ales and ciders.  The festival is hugely popular and a definite date in the beer-lover’s diary and is considered to be one of the best beer festivals in Dorset and the UK. The Live music is certainly very live and usually gets people dancing and singing along throughout the weekend. There is everything from Rock bands, acoustic, soul, Funk etc.

The Bankes Arms in Studland is an award-winning Dorset 15thC smugglers’ county inn, set in Studland overlooking the beautiful Purbeck coast, on top of the Studland Cliffs overlooking Old Harry Rocks.

Loads of cyclists and motorists come over from Poole and Bournemouth by crossing the opening to Poole Harbour using the chain ferry at Sandbanks and travelling two miles South to Studland, or they take the A35 eastwards from Poole, then travel South along the A351 through Wareham and to Corfe, taking the B3351 at Corfe Castle to Studland.
