UK Roots Movement Singer Songwriters at Folk On The Quay

June 20th, 2013

Part of UK Roots Movement – Pete Christie, Alex Roberts and Andy Grant are performing together as the Headline act at Harbour Lounge, part of the ‘Folk On The Quay’ festival

Folk On The Quay 2013 will be at various locations along Poole Quay, in Dorset, on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June 2013

Pete Christie, Alex Roberts and Andy Grant will be participating in this music festival at 9pm Saturday 29 June 2013. Pete Christie was asked to host and headline the Harbour Lounge event and thought what great fun it would be again to get fellow UK Roots Movement musicians; Alex Roberts and Andy Grant to along also; there will be plenty of fingerstyle guitar technique, guitars and singer songwriter folk and roots material that night!

This is a new festival brought together by Poole Tourism and Folk Dorset; Paul Burke and Catherine Burke, both of which are accomplished musicians and event organisers, who run the famous Bournemouth Folk Club and more recently started putting on the beautiful Purbeck Folk Festival. Pete Christie will be playing again this year at Purbeck Folk Festival on Saturday, August 24th, on the  Fire Stage, at 10pm.

Poole’s Folk On The Quay festival is a FREE event with top folk acts, world music and dancing. What a great location with fantastic views over the harbour!

The Saturday evening will have a street concert and 3 stages, ceilidh dances and lots of other attractions through the weekend with local pub landlords also hosting music along the Quay.

Support comes from local singer/songwriter, Pete Christie ensuring that this will be an evening of top quality songs and performance

Quote from Sean’s website

Bob Harris Radio 2 programme; Bob has played two tracks from the album. Folk legend Mike Harding played a track and  raved about the album on Facebook & Twitter, writing ‘My main listen today – Springsteen and Taylor are cheering my day’ … nice to be put in the same sentence as ‘The Boss’.

It is hard to recall how many South of England gigs and Festivals have featured Bemis and Pete Christie or Pete Christie and Bemis; enough times for Pete to be known as the ‘unofficial 5th member of Bemis’ and to appear on their recent albums.

It’s an easy relationship with a shared love of great music and beautiful harmonies, and totally natural stage chemistry.

The Cellars is home turf for Bemis in Southsea – (one of the best venues on the circuit, with a superb sound and a listening and appreciative audience), and Pete has appeared not only as a “guest” with them, but also with Derrin Nauendorf and most recently, Rory Ellis.

The Cellars has been an oasis for musicians over the years, and some great collaborations have been formed backstage, as this performance will no doubt prove!

Pete Christie
‘LIVE AT MR KYPS’

Self Released
****

Solo and outrageously done, this live album demonstrates what an unsung talent Pete Christie is.
Bournemouth based singer-songwriter Pete Christie first started performing in 1979 with his 3-piece ska-rock band the Skavengers.
This nine track album which rightly shows his ability to pick an awesome tune is delightful from start to finish.

Performed with just an acoustic guitar at the Poole venue, he gives a master class into how to use his chosen instrument stupendously, as all but two of these tracks are written by Pete himself.
‘Not Enough’ is one of Pete’s own compositions, and has a sparse sound that features some excellent picking throughout. With some hypnotic singing and frenetic strumming at the end, this song is simply astonishing.

One of the tracks which isn’t written by Pete is Bob Dylan’s ‘Not Dark Yet’. It takes a daring soul to try and upstage any version which Dylan releases, and here Pete gives it his all in a song which by no means harms Pete’s credentials as one of the UK’s finest acts, but strengthens his cause to be regarded as an awesome artist in his own right.

If you haven’t seen Pete live, please rectify this by going to one of his upcoming performances. His music is good for the soul, and when you see him perform live you’ll leave his gig with a wide smile on your face for days due to the superb musical quality you have just witnessed.
