'Waiting In The Wings' song | Pete Christie Live in London video

February 19th, 2013

‘Waiting In The Wings’ is from Pete Christie’s studio album ‘Frank’.

“Waiting in the Wings” is Pete’s most famous song; and according to Tom Semioli reviewing for  Minor 7th in the USA, “it is reminiscent of the off-the-wall stuff of Brian Wilson and Sir Paul as produced by Sir George Martin.”

Critically acclaimed for  showing off Pete’s gift for tethering his romantic ruminations to memorable melodies and instrumental harmonies. The album ‘Frank’ has been called “refreshing”, “honest”, “wonderful”, “natural”, “versatile”, “…heartfelt songs that recall McTell’s glory days…” by Acoustic Magazine, and “delivered by a master craftsman”. “Frank is not background music. It’s a wonderfully written book brought to life by sounds”.

Ian Peterson Live Wire review and quote on the biography page

“…Pete Christie is in a league of his own. His new album, entitled “Frank” is a knockout collection of eight self penned songs, plus a track, “Not Yet Dark, written by Dylan. Anyone who plays guitar should go and see Pete in action. The way he explores rhythm and the dynamics of the instrument is a real education. His use of the loop station, and a few subtle dabs on his effects pedals, layering rhythms and sounds, is mesmerising.
The CD is wonderful. Tracks of the quality of “Waiting In The Wings” and the highly commercial “Easy Come, Easy Go” are worth the purchase price alone…”

A special thanks to Douglas Dickens in USA, who showcases independent artists on Reverbnation once a week, for reminding me to record this song at a live music event.

“…Christie’s ability to connect with his audience lies with his unabashed and honest delivery, his plausibility due to a belief that when he sings of love, loss and life, it is from his own experience. This is all but confirmed by his last song, in honour of a friend confined to a wheelchair. Christie found his inspiration in the eternal optimism of his friend, and was compelled to complete the writing of this song in one brief sitting. Entitled ‘Waiting In The Wings’, the song’s moral is that there are always people worse off than yourself, and if their positivity is able to shine through, it would be an injustice for yours not to. This was my first first encounter of Pete Christie, and I was left thoroughly warmed by it. By all that I have just described, I wish I had heard him sooner!…”

“…’Waiting in the Wings’ is one of Pete Christie’s classics; which has on occasion changed the course of people’s lives after taking on the sentiment of the lyrics that “life is not a rehearsal and to make the most of it by doing what you want to do, now…”

There are other blog posts to read about ‘Waiting In The Wings’ and the story behind why I called the album ‘Frank’.

The album version features ‘The Band of the Royal British Legion, Christchurch’.

The studio Album ‘Frank’ is available to purchase still.

Thanks to all the musicians, photographer and sound engineer that helped bring the ‘Frank’ tracks to life.

Douglas has been rather affected by ‘Waiting in The Wings’ and regularly shares my songs.

Waiting In The Wings (Pete Christie with Alex Roberts – live version, at Mr Kyps, Poole)

One of my all time favourite songwriters from the UK, Pete Christie has some amazing tunes here from start to finish. The first song is an instrumental and amazingly beautiful. Now follow it thru to Ballad of an Ordinary Man or Waiting in the Wings (my personal favourite) and you have the essence of Pete. Love this man’s work.

It has been awhile since i shared Pete Christie‘s song here. This song touched me and i wrote about it awhile ago. This is what Pete wrote back about this song:
Hi Doug.. I really appreciate what you do! Share away!!! Bit of background for you.. This song was written after a conversation with a guy in a wheelchair, who is afflicted with terrible disabilities… His undying optimism and sense of humour made me realise that life was for living, and you only get one shot at it. The song was written in about 20 mins from start to finish – and I swear it was flying around my room and just landed on me… It’s not my song. I was just lucky enough to be there at the time with a guitar… I’ve had lots of positive feedback from all kinds of people who tell me how the song has changed their lives, and that’s really humbling. If I never write another song, I won’t mind. Keep up the good work! Very best wishes from the UK. Pete :0)

For the last two days I have been living with Pete Christie’s CD ‘Frank’. This song is my favourite on the whole cd because the message is so profound. Pete is going to get tired of me sharing this but i really feel that we all need to listen to the words and live by the message. Cudos Pete ….. wish i wrote it.

About Douglas Dickens

Music is the driving force in my life and has been since a young lad. I played professionally for years and will again during the later years of my life. I write a lot and share a bit but it is always a pleasure to meet and get to know new folks which is why i am here. The one common ground that most of us have is music and, even though our tastes are diverse, it aids in the tolerance and acceptance of all who cross our paths.

Deep South USA meets Deep South UK – Bill Sheffield and Pete Christie

May 21st, 2012

Bill Sheffield and Pete Christie sing an impromptu rendition together of Richard Thompson’s ‘Vincent Black Lightning’.

Bill Sheffield from Georgia USA performs on Pete Christie's set at Portsmouth Hoy on Poole Quay in Dorset

This great night was at Portsmouth Hoy on Poole Quay, in Poole Dorset UK, on Friday 4 May 2012. Authentic Blues musician, Bill Sheffield was over from his home town of Georgia in USA; on a night off, before his UK Tour started and he come by to watch fellow musician Pete Christie’s set.

Bill Sheffield and Pete Christie met up a few years ago at a ‘house jam’; that’s what happens when all your mates are musicians. Bill Sheffield’s nick name of ‘The big bluesman from Atlanta, Georgia, USA’ is quite apt; Bill has the sweetest  and most unexpected booming voice; great to watch in concert.

Pete  Christie wrote a yet to be release instrumental for Bill Sheffield called ‘Bill’s Blues’ but on this occasion Richard Thompson’s ‘Beeswing’ prompted Bill and Pete to wow the audience with ‘Vincent Black Lightning’.

You can catch Bill Sheffield touring with Dave Saunders and Pete Christie  is currently touring around the length and breadth of  UK.
