January 5th, 2014

Written on a guitar, played on a guitar but recorded with a piano.

‘Making It Up’
Words and music by Pete Christie.
Performed by Pete Christie and Karen Smith.

Recording by Ian Piper.
From the album ‘Miles Away’

It’s what singer songwriters do: recognise real life and tell the story, and as Steve Seskin is quoted as saying, “Part of what you write in lyrics is what you don’t write.”

“There’s a saying in Nashville, ‘Paint it; don’t say it.'” — Danny Myrick

I always liked this quote I got on BBC Introducing on Radio South Live, from the Demo Panel with Phil Jackson, way back in 2010, where they do live showcases of unsigned musicians:

“The one thing I look for in a good songwriter is where a performer paints good pictures and this man does that. If you close your eyes when you listen to his lyrics, you can see those pictures – They’re there. They’re real and that’s the essence of good storytelling with a song. There’s a lot more going on behind the voice than you immediately gather. His south of the river, not Americanised, voice works very well. ” – Chris Taylor, The Greys, Brighton

Pete Christie ‘Normal Shade of Blue’ video at Square & Compass

Worth Matravers, Dorset, UK; just up the road from my home on the Isle of Purbeck. Great music venue; looking forward to playing there again!

Pete Christie singing his original song ‘Normal Shade of Blue

Filmed by M J Patterson and Bob Fry at a ‘Pete Christie thanks his audience with a special gig‘ event in September 2012.
MJ loves this song and can be heard singing whilst filming. I even did a transatlantic session for her last year | song lyrics ‘Normal Shade Of Blue’

I was invited to play 3 songs with Ron Trueman-Border, a singer songwriter I admire, playing at Square & Compass last year.

Pete Christie’s political song ‘Ballad Of An Ordinary Man’ video

October 12th, 2012

British singer songwriter acoustic guitarist Pete Christie performs ‘Ballad Of An Ordinary Man’ on YouTube

A song which protests about the erosion of the principles of life that were once described as ‘rights’, only to be conveniently re-defined as merely temporary privileges by the changing of political horizons.

Live Music Event performed at The Dolphin Pub, Blandford Forum, Dorset, UK
